I enjoy the other place too but it seems like in principle there should be a major social media network for posting about news and politics that isn't run by a senior quasi-member of the incoming administration (or any administration). So here I am!
Some people say the worst part of cosplaying Nazi salutes is the cosplaying, but I think the worst part is the Nazi salutes

So what's the legal deal with this? I thought the law only requires Apple and Google to take tiktok out of the app stores
TikTok has sent all of us a notice that its services will be “temporarily unavailable” imminently.

It also sent us all a little goodbye message.

This is so boring, I'm sorry. We all know why schools have to have bullet proof glass and metal detectors. It's not the world I want to live in, but it's the one we have. No use pretending it hasn't already been a national conversation for half a decade or maybe much more.
"Stop asking why schools don’t have bullet proof glass & metal detectors at all the doors. Ask why schools HAVE to. That’s the question that needs to be asked”

Remember that alarming story circulating recently about the dangers of black plastic utensils? Well, the risk they identified was 10 times higher than it actually is, because the authors of the study made a multiplication error.

One thing I still appreciate about X is Community Notes. This post by is clear misinformation (the debt forgiveness occured before the shooting) and yet it remains up without any clarification, and will do so until the overburdened blue sky moderation team fact-check it, if they ever do.

They say that in the solar vs nuclear energy zero-emissions debate, solar is winning, but still seems unclear how they smooth out power supply to times the sun isn't shining

Is letting kids go outside and play around the neighborhood an 80s things that's completely and irretrievably dead now? Seems like it would be hard to bring back because what's the point of your kid doing it if the other kids aren't out there playing too?
