UK Governments Have Been Harming Vulnerable For Many Years. BENEFITS NEWS Is Very Angry About That And Will Keep Exposing Those That Ignorantly Continue Backing Policies And Processes That Harm! It Is Not Good Enough! It Never Ends! Poorly Lives Matter!

Usually found ranting on X - You will have noticed!
We are lovely but when abuse of position - eg MPs, Ministers, Governments and their departments is hurting very sick, disabled, elderly or other weaker groups of citizens, you can expect we might rant - on purpose - in defence of vulnerable!

Cuts to welfare will be the biggest test of that. Ministers are drawing up plans to introduce a bill to parliament next week containing Labour’s controversial cuts to disability benefits, in time for a showdown vote — the “second reading” — in the week of June 30 or later.

One person with knowledge of the plans said the bill was likely to be tightly focused on the cuts, while other welfare reforms will come only later in the year.

This will concentrate Labour MPs’ anger, but could also allow the government to classify it as a “money bill” — meaning it would be made law within a month of being sent to the House of Lords even if peers still object.

Officials have also held talks about putting the bill through a “committee of the whole house,” preventing lengthy evidence sessions that could question experts and campaigners. The person with knowledge of the plans argued: “You rip the plaster off, otherwise it just drags out for longer.”

We have a poverty line - the point below which people don’t have enough to get by.

Now, we need an Extreme Wealth Line - the point at which someone has more wealth than they could ever spend, where wealth becomes destructive.

We’re raising £20,000 to build it. 1/2

Spending in disability benefits is projected to soar, despite the government's cuts. This “highlights the danger of designing reforms to hit a short-term savings target”, said @pollardtom.bsky.social in @thetimes.com www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...

@tomroyston.bsky.social if previous (Tory) plans were found unlawful by the High Court - why does this (Labour) gov think its plans are not unlawful?
It is a faux consultation if MP votes in Parliament are due before end of consultation and parts are not being open to discussion by those affected.

It's worse than that, because as I note in this piece - yorkshirebylines.co.uk/business/eco... - when people are threatened with destitution, their families and communities, who may well be struggling themselves, often pick up the bill.
Labour welfare cuts: bad for people, the party and the public purse
Labour’s planned cuts to disability benefits have been rightly condemned for targeting the vulnerable, but they’re also economic nonsense

In summary: The 250k net poverty rise in impact assessment is extra to an assumed 150k rise that previous Conservative plans would have created - even they never happened. But DWP has assumed that increase was already on the books and added to it. Real poverty impact is 400k. 7/7

DWP figures in response to FOI request indicate 87% of claimants currently receiving PIP daily living component at standard rate, and 13% of claimants receiving enhanced rate are likely to lose their entitlement if “score 4” changes go ahead.

That means virtually everyone on standard rate PIP.
