#IDSky Got a really concerning email from the Natl Hansens Disease Program that they’ll no longer be offering direct clinical consultation. This service is vital and has been totally necessary to my treatment of patients with leprosy. Anyone know anything more abt this? Smells like a DOGE cut to me.

The United States of America is the only major country on earth that does not guarantee health care as a human right.

The result: We rank dead last among wealthy nations in life expectancy.

We must end that international embarrassment.

Yes. We need Medicare for All.

A doctor has been serving one of Baltimore’s poorest neighborhoods for decades — and if his patients can’t pay, that’s OK with him.

So when he was diagnosed with cancer, his community rallied to raise $100,000 for his treatments.
For decades, a doctor refused to charge patients who couldn't pay. When he couldn't pay, his patients came to his aid.
When Dr. Michael Zollicoffer was diagnosed with two types of cancer, his patients started a crowdfunding campaign that raised more than $100,000.

The removal of #HIV- and #LGBTQ-related resources from the websites of CDC and other health agencies is deeply concerning.

Access to this information is crucial for ID and HIV health care professionals.

I can roll with a lot of crazy stuff but this genuinely shocks me. This program … it’s beloved. You can’t even imagine how many lives Pepfar has saved, and is currently saving! There are kids on these drugs!

Scientific advancements aside, this is economically irresponsible

Every $1 spent by NIH generates $2.46

For example, in 2023, $47B in NIH spending generated ~$93B

Halting NIH spending will LOSE the US a lot of money (and talent)
