Update: I've now followed roughly 3825 athletes on IG, with no end in sight. I've also realized this will make it very hard to not have events spoiled that I can only watch on primetime delay...but not sure I care if I can also get endless room tours and cafeteria taste tests and plant adoptions 😁
Oh dear. I've fallen down a wormhole of Olympic coverage and social media posts from athletes in Milan and I'm afraid* this is where I'll stay for the majority of the next 2+ weeks.

always bears repeating that this is NOT a financial decision. jeff bezos is worth over 250 billion dollars. he can afford to lose many millions and never even notice it. this is, at its core, a political and personal decision by bezos to destroy the post

Bezos has been tearing down what was once one of the most reputable papers in the world for years now, but I chose to keep my sub to read and support the people providing great sports coverage.

What's happening at the Post is just so fucking grim on so many levels, including, of course, for the professionals it's impacting (godspeed, Bailey et al) and the consumer. The enshitification of modern life continues unabated...
I was among the layoffs at The Washington Post today. It has been an absolute dream to be a small part of this incredible team. Covering the Caps has been an honor; being a beat writer is an all-consuming thing that I love deeply. I hope I’ll get to continue that in whatever is next

Because sometimes I fixate on weird things, I went down a small rabbit hole and found out that:
1) CAR's only been outshot 77x in their last 5 seasons (382 gms total)
2) they've been outshot by 10+ in just 20 of those, by 20+ in just 3
3) two of those three were vs. the Caps...including today 😏
