Yeah... decided to switch to a new/old PFP for a while. It's not recent, but one of my more flattering favorites. (Mattie the Wonder Horse from the last one deserves a li'l break time back at the barn...)

It and I am old enough that we used to call them 'avatars,' kids.

I'm sure it happens elsewhere, but New Mexico has this speciality where one day you can have a winter storm warning with reports of up to 6-12" above 7500ft*, and a severe thunderstorm warning the very next day.

* = I lucked out, just a few inches overnight, now gone due to today's rain.

The thought that keep running through my head this evening, echoing:
"It didn't have to be this way. It doesn't have to be this way. This needs to f*cking stop."

This was an act of cold-blooded, deliberate, state-sponsored and -encouraged murder.

I love that last term: "Memetic fascism."

So perfect, and aligns with my personal theory that via online interactions and social media, malignant ideas and false beliefs have become dangerously virulent.
"Maduro’s arrest is connected to a new kind of politics I’ve spent the last year struggling to describe. A profoundly embarrassing collision of violent nationalism, illiterate social chatter, and memetic fascism that’s been spreading across the globe since the pandemic."

This is why most regular consumer automatic bread and rice makers do not cook right where I currently live, also 'slow cookers' will boil their contents. Low air pressure = water boils at 198F/92C here.

I've had to find workarounds and adaptations.

For what it's worth, on the other side of the aisle so to speak, I almost never say no to this request unless (1) the person has been creepy/skeevy (I trust my instincts) or (2) I believe they'll confuse open friendliness for interest (a common encounter problem for many women).
Hey, #UglyDogs!

I'm grateful for you all.

Wishing you a peaceful, healthy New Year that amplifies all your victories and improves all the things you want to improve!

PS: There's a story I keep meaning to share with you. It's so simple and tiny in, but literally changed my life. Wanna hear it?

Sorry I seem out-of-sorts, because there's no 'seems' about it right now. Despite a number of positive events in my recent life, I'm still dealing with the grief of losing a spouse with whom I'd been together over 28 years (married about 18mo less than that).

Recent personal discovery: It's probably a testament to my compensatory and masking skills that I can score extraordinarily well on tests intended to detect ADHD-related cognitive deficits.

Not sure my mental health professional realizes this. She now thinks it's not a struggle at all. Oh well.

Time for another photo from the collection... A view from the Sandia Crest, next to Albuquerque, New Mexico, looking south. Altitude: Over 11k feet. Not a problem if you're locally acclimated, rather more difficult if you're not.

Oh my…This may seem like a non-sequitur, but fans of Babylon 5 will recall that, in a pivotal time, Kosh shows Sheridan "one moment of perfect beauty."

This is that, again. One moment of perfect beauty in a place one least expects it. If you're feeling down, give them a call, you won't regret it.

Oh, there's a ton of that in my most recent work. In fact, at one point, a different set of characters wonder just what the F the earlier ones were thinking when they did something assessed by the 2nd group to be potentially lethally stupid.

Lots of theorizing, some accurate, some wrong. It's fun!
A lot of agents love when characters "theorize"—when they wonder, hope, fear what might happen next. This can efficiently show personality, stakes, context, and possible outcomes.

In any given moment, what does your character HOPE will happen? What are they AFRAID will happen? ✨ #WritingCraft

About 25 years ago, I was on another of my endless series of tech writing contract gigs, with the as-usual awful commute, and on one particular day, a vitally important delivery deadline. I even made an extra effort to arrive extra early.

I was literally the 1st person there, only to discover…
