Our Soot Stained Heart is of the most impeccably crafted comics I've ever read. It was actually a difficult comic to review purely on the basis that it felt like it was operating on a different playing field than most comics I've read in recent years.

I loved graduating from college to watch the industry I tried to get in to get ripped apart and turned into insultingly low-pay freelance gigs. All love and respect to the indie sites that are still putting in the good work partially just out of spite.
"where is all the good writing about games" now replaced with "where is the money for good writing about games"

Wanted to take a moment to talk about how much I love this podcast. I've learned so much about the games medium from Jared and his guests and it's one of the things that pushed me to dip my toes in writing about video games. Beyond happy that this series is back and can't recommend it enough.

The decline of third spaces and hangouts, such as malls, video rental places, arcades & skate parks has been a direct result of the rise of convenience and has also been objectively bad for society as a whole. Its not that everyone HAS to socialize, but having no option to without bars is a failing.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

First episode of Alien: Earth down. A lot of Blade Runner in here, which is a great thing.

It's also, pardon my French, *fucking outstanding*

Jumping headfirst into one of gaming’s most iconic and intimidating genres I’ve actually long held the belief that fighting games are objectively the coolest genre of video game. As muc…

Took a break from the personal blog to rename and rethink. "Hypermedia" never really felt right. "Jackals in the Courtyard" sounds cool.
Thought I'd come back with some thoughts after my replay of Red Dead Redemption 2, and on Westerns as a whole.

Stoked that I was able to help unveil this over at MonkeysFightingRobots. @neonichiban.bsky.social is a huge deal, especially for people wanting to get into comics via a digital storefront.

Trachtenberg is doing the kind of storytelling in Predator that I've wanted to see since I was a kid, but with a sincere focus on human storytelling. Killer of Killers slams, and I cannot wait for Badlands.

I honestly found this season of Love, Death & Robots to be pretty lacking. But 400 Boys? This slammed. One of the best pieces the series has ever shown.

i strongly agree. i also think if you want to be any good at talking about art, you need to consume as much art as humanly possible and talk about it all the time. each piece of art is in conversation with a thousand different other things.
my personal idea for games media is that future publications should not merely aspire to be games publications, but arts and culture ones. Games-focused shops should still exist, but I think one path forward is to start with the argument we’ve been making: that games are part of culture

Getting a job in games media seemed almost unattainable when I broke in back in 2005. In the years since, it’s become almost impossible and ultimately inadvisable. I can’t imagine trying to break in today.

Independent is pretty much the only option now. Support your favorite creators directly.

Absolute travesty. I just recently *rejected* a position from Valnet because they're such a garbage company. Really feeling for the folks at Polygon.

Really love that I graduated from college just in time to watch the industry I wanted to enter get pulverized.
