Apparently the transformation aspect for Cutie Honey (1973) was fueled by a survey in Ribon about the type of occupations girls wanted when they grew up.
Unrelated but I watched some Tokimeki Tonight and it's a nice episodic kind of show. Made me think how many Anime back then had girls transforming into things, other people, or types of jobs. Even Sailor Moon had a little bit of that. Wonder what made it such a popular thing to do.
