Be kind. Always.
“Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.” Henry James

Kindness never goes out of season. Every moment is a chance to care. Compassion makes the world gentler.

While we’re banning books…

Finland is teaching children in school how to recognize fake news and propaganda as part of critical thinking and civic responsibility. Some of this will seem very familiar.

Be. Like. Finland.

Word of the Day is one I keep posting at the end of the year, hoping its time will come.

‘Respair’, from the 16th century, is fresh hope, and a recovery from despair.

Here’s to a few drops of respair in 2025.

I think I may have met a few of these in my lifetime. 😁
Today's word is ‘Ultracrepidarian’.

Two words for certain types of people, should you need them:

microlipet: one who gets all worked up over nothing.

struthonian: the person who buries their head in the sand and says ‘Problem? What problem?’.

Saw this from #CBSThurles. It's from one of their first year students. Oh my goodness- what understanding of pain, what thought provoking words. Cathal shows incredible maturity and understanding. Wow! It took my breath away. #Edchatie

I totally want a hibernacle! What a great word.
Word of the day is ‘hibernacle’ (18th century): a hibernating animal’s winter retreat.

I believe it works on a human level too.

Benefits of play, continuous provision in the classroom and setting. Play-based learning and opportunities strengthens development, especially in the early years. Play is essential when implementing a holistic curriculum and supporting all aspects of child development.

The slender-billed curlew was declared extinct this week - here, the Irish curlew (crotach) lost over 90% of its breeding population since the 1980s due to habitat loss from human activity. If we don't act, their bubbling call may be silenced in Ireland forever.
