Who knew Mass Effect 2 was a good game, then?
I might be (looks at calendar) 16 years late, but it's a good game.

A great piece on a game I'm very much interested in playing. Folks growing alongside their skills, their styles and preferences, resulting in more uniquely personal games that are decidedly theirs is something I hope this industry (bleh this word) and audience can foster.

Going from The Division 1 to 2 is like eating too much candy and washing it down with an energy drink. Everything is faster, more colorful and wow it's making me not excited.
- Did it require me being sick & 9 years minus one day to watch @notquitereal.bsky.social & @austinwalker.bsky.social play The Division Survival dlc?
- Yes.
- Am I still glad?
- Oh hell yes.
The Division 1's Survival DLC is a super interesting standalone game mode with systemic spice. (1/2)

I'm sure parodies of mobile games have snappier jokes than this not-explicitly-a-joke one.🫠 Just mind blowing Gaming™ happening here.
Here’s a “I didn’t play for a week and now the Christmas event stuff started and every recurring revenue system reset requiring a new pop up” version that is somehow twice as long

When you have a feeling and then you have an insight on that feeling, you write poetry.
When you see something and you have an insight on what you're seeing, you draw.
When you observe a system and you have an insight into a system in action, you create a game.

I think a lot of the discussion around AI isn't specific enough or informed enough, and that's why this piece from @edmondtran.bsky.social is so useful and important. These are actual concept artists spelling out in clear, unambiguous terms why Gen-AI is not only unhelpful, it's a nuisance.
We spoke to a dozen professional concept artists who are currently or have previously worked in game development about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs any easier.

Zero said it did. Most said it made things harder.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder
“The ‘early ideation stages’, when worlds are being fleshed out by writers and artists, are literally crucial to the development of a game’s vision,” said one artist.

“Second-guessing my death” is my submission to the 72-hour Game Writing SIG Arcjam. The theme was Resilience.
It is an interactive fiction game, featuring a collection of 5 short scenes, some surreal, some less so, on life and hanging on.

Short spoiler free story about my experience with Arco.

Back before bsky took off, I saw a post on Twitter from a game dev asking for advice because their game is reviewing extremely highly but it's not reflecting on sales. I wanna help but I gotta try it first. So I make a note to check it out. 1/

A look at a very interesting looking indie game about death, mortality, people and places. Combining powerwashing simulator type gameplay & meaningful metaphors and a headspace reminiscent of 'a mortician's tale' (some of this team was involved in that game) is something that makes my brain tingle.
Ambrosia Sky is a first person space-cleanup/ImSim about death and memory.

We talk to @softrains.bsky.social about its creative inspirations and give our impressions of the game's recently released first act.

Trying to play The Division 1 for its Survival DLC, and I have to say, I'll never be used to controller first/third person shooters, it just feels inferior to mouse and keyboard 😔
I wanted to play this on steam deck so much but I'm so much worse at it, it's like playing on hard vs normal.

This looks very promising and it prompts discussions that need to be had in this space.

A very well written review that echoes my own thoughts on Bahnsen Knights, a short and sweet interactive fiction game that effortlessly lifted me away from my house and into this ominous, electric, violent, attractive world.
I've yet to move on from it.

The 17th November symbolically marks the fall of the Greek military junta of 1967. Each year the deeply fascist Greek state trots out the same boring, fascism apologia, denying the many dead and wounded and arguing about whether this brought on the end of the junta or not. Nazis fuck off.

Sentimental Value is a gem of a movie. Mature, measured and deeply affecting, it is a clear recommendation from me. Family, parenthood, trauma, acting and art, every piece handled with the respect they deserve.

Same for browsing through discogs with no/minimal intention of bying anything.
