After #SQuInT2025 concluded, @balintpato.bsky.social , Cole Maurer, & I opted for a post-conference discussion on quantum computing, its capabilities, public perception of it, and various geopolitical issues that have arisen recently. Recording available here:

I feel very grateful towards the #QEC25 organizers and the QEC community! I had an amazing time, came out with a ton more knowledge, new collaborators, new friends, some great times with old friends, and even new paths towards job opportunities!

We’d love to find more #QEC experts here on BlueSky and have created this starter pack to help connect the error correction community.

It’s just a start – if you’re working QEC, please follow this account and message us. We’ll happily add you to the pack!

This is a mega-thread of all Microsoft problems related to topological qubits.

NOTE: I skip the numerous news reports and press releases, this thread is for serious _scientific_ and procedural materials

First retraction: Quantized Majorana Conductance, from Nature

RETRACTED ARTICLE: Quantized Majorana conductance - Nature
In a step towards topological quantum computation, a quantized Majorana conductance has been demonstrated for a semiconducting nanowire coupled to a superconductor.

These notes are great for a somewhat beginner level too - they helped me get intuition even before I started my PhD.

In case you were ever confused by the Knill-Laflamme conditions for QEC codes - I drew a picture of it on the QC StackExchange quantumcomputing.stackexchange.com/a/40802/4986... #quantum
Intuition about Knill-Laflamme QEC conditions
The Knill Laflamme QEC conditions are stated this way: We consider a code space $C$ and its associated projector $P_C$. We consider a noise acting on our system: $E(\rho)=\sum_a E_a \rho E_a^{\da...

scirate.com/arxiv/2412.1... looks very interesting - I always found cellular automaton decoders fascinating. I guess if these result all hold - this might provide a way forward towards an even more scalable locally decodable surface code? I wonder what the catch is? Any thoughts here?
A local automaton for the 2D toric code
We construct a local decoder for the 2D toric code using ideas from the hierarchical classical cellular automata of Tsirelson and Gács. Our decoder is a circuit of strictly local quantum operations pr...

let this be my first #quantum post.

Amazing trace, how sweet to sum
all the diagonals, O_aa (oh-a-a)!
No basis missed, all can come
they'll sum to the same

A peek at some of my slides for quantum industry day at the Simons institute on Thursday, comparing 2014 to 2024.

I find myself wondering if 2024 vs 2034 will show similar amounts of improvement. I think it could, if physical qubits keep improving in quality or capability (e.g. non-planar links).

I definitely had some introductory posts (skeets?) long months ago here but I can't see them on my timeline. Granted I haven't been active for a while. Do old posts get cleaned up on blue sky?
