I set out to be a clinical doctor forever.
Then life happened.
I left medicine and, with that, felt completely lost.

I have now found my way again,
Navigating a path less trodden,
But no less fulfilling.

Careers are not linear.

Inspiring obit in this week’s @bmj.com of Dr Ruth White, a “pioneer” in perinatal mental health, while having bipolar disorder herself. She and her husband chose psychiatry as the only speciality that “was not dull”.

In vast areas of the US, the sentiments expressed in this wonderful letter from a British man about why it's a privilege to pay tax to enable the National Health Service to run would see him probably certified as insane and labelled a "socialist".

Awesome day in Primary Care delivering a Paeds clinic alongside a GP registrar. Fab to work together &share our strengths in a local setting for the families. Followed by brilliant joint thinking meeting about managing complexity in CYP. Finished off with a sneaky sunset run on the hills. Happy day!

The most important advice I have for healthcare workers looking to impact their wellbeing today is to take 10 intentional minutes to eat and drink at lunch.

Do it without distractions = eat it with a knife and fork.

You’re not a machine. And even machines get scheduled breaks.

Sometimes you just need a day that feels GOOD. Today was one of those…excellent team, opportunities to teach & enthusiastic learners, interesting patient mix & enough time to give to families to practice medicine well.

The three T’s…teamwork, time & teaching. Feel lucky to have had them all today 🥰
