Happy birthday to Ruby Bridges, who is the reason I was even able to pursue proper, fair higher education. What she had to endure as the first Black child to integrate schools was unimaginable. I will forever be grateful. ♥️

A non-native buddeia, living up to its common name, 'butterfly bush'.

Seems great, but by enticing insects away from native plants, these risk going unpollinated, thus declining. Insects need those plants with which they evolved in other crucial ways, eg food for larvae.

Nature is a *system*.

Techies are always chasing the mythical tool that will let them "focus on the work" and avoid tedious distractions like "talking to people."

But talking to people IS the work. You can complain about it on the internet, or take responsibility and make your life a lot easier.
Can Designers Avoid Meetings?
LLMs are not the first tool to promise that they can free us from having to talk to people so we can "focus on the work." But talking to people IS the work.

Toward a June record for iso 0°C this week end in the Alps! 🥵📈

Current record is 4912 m (18 juin 2017) and modeling show it could reach 5200 m on Sat. 28th at 5:00 am! 😱

Speechless...

These values will put the whole of the Alps in ice abalation zone! 🔥

Scale is a major major way that OpenAI, Cohere and other generative ai companies get training data, and they're otherwise running (or have run) out. Who can even step up? Is there anyone? Is this basically Zuckerberg buying the fuel behind model training? Very funny move if so
June 11, 2025 at 2:12 AM
As reported by [sigh] platformer, Meta's investment in Scale likely loses them business from OpenAi/DeepMind.

Two Qs:
1. Doesn't this potentially kill Scale unless Meta props them up? (They're increasing spend as part of deal)
2. Where the hell does the AI industry get their training data now?
