My research has been taking a back seat for a few days. I'm currently prepping for a YouTube show on a well known WW2 channel about researching DUKE airmen in WW2 (DUKE = Dominions, UK, Empire). Slideshow just about done. Script almost complete. Show will likely be in April. More details to follow.

I've had a butchers at the @ibccdigitalarchive.bsky.social's analytics.
Over the last month the archive has had around 7,000 users.
Most found us from Google, 380 came from Social media, 143 from the IBCC, and 51 from Wikipedia. Others came from Ancestry & YouTube, and aviation sites.

AI is useful for something at least. I asked ChatGPT to create a cartoon image of my Grandads Lancaser. Better than anything I could ever do!!

All ops for 15, 35, 83 and 115 sqns uploaded to the website. Crews only partially input. Website now contains 45,000 operations. Work for the rest of the year is to verify the remaining 112,000 ops and get them uploaded.

Two input phases of my project now complete. All ops are input and all postings are input. One input phase left which is the crews on each op. 57,000 input and 100,000 left. Onwards and upwards.

Hope everyone is fine on Battle Of Britain day. On this day in 1940 an RAF airmen was awarded the Victoria Cross. Sgt John Hannah of Bomber Command was a Wireless Operator in a Hampden over Antwerp when they were hit by flak. He stayed in the aircraft fighting the fire with his bare hands.

A saying only a Bomber Command expert would understand - "Feel that laying could not have been bettered by gardening from a rowing boat". Taken from the 207 Sqn Operational records.

698 Lancasters were involved in ops on D-Day. The map below shows their targets and number of aircraft involved.

Everyone think Bomber Command wasn't involved in the Airborne Assault in Op Market Garden? Turns out to be wrong. One Lancaster (DV171) of 463 (RAAF) Sqn took part, carrying nothing but a film unit to photograph and film the landings. It spent 25 minutes over the landings filming.

My favourite two shows collide. Paul Woodadge who runs YouTube channel "WW2TV" joins the podcast "Never Mind The Dambusters" to talk about the bombing campaign on D-Day.
