Couldn't agree with @danellin.bsky.social more. Gibson's book is as bad as Max Hasting's attempt, and should be put on the "Charity Shop" shelf of any book collection.

I know "what ifs" are hard to answer. That's why I asked the question. 😀 I fully believe that Bomber Command would have reverted to the role they had around D-Day. Hitting lots more tactical targets, like railways junctions, marshalling yards, ports etc.

Q: Given Churchill's "about-face" after the Dresden raid, what do you think Bomber Commands role would have been if the war in Europe had continued longer.

When I worked in the museum and people asked about the Battle of Britain, I always told them to go to Warmwell Church. There's 21 graves. 2 South African, 1 Czech, 1 Polish, 1 New Zealander, 1 Aussie, 1 Canadian, 1 Rhodesian and 13 Brits. The story of the BoB in one cemetery.
