Hard to believe we're in day 27 of the shutdown. At least the image frozen at the top of the website—this view of a ridge and river intersecting in a dune field in western China—is one of my all-time favorites. I could stare at this all day. earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/15484...

Geologists have an amazing new superpower. With InSAR satellites, it’s possible to measure how much earthquakes move the land surface and even spot the earliest stirrings of volcanic eruptions from space. 🌍📡🌋 earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/15477...

Each year as the sun starts to reappear over Antarctica I start the process of going through Sentinel2 imagery to find the locations of the 66 known emperor penguin colonies. Here is this year's first image, of Snow Hill, the most northerly colony. Can you spot the penguins?

This is not actually a subtweet of anything specific right now, but I do want to make a plea to everyone to a) attribute and link to the source of any information you're sharing b) only share posts that do so.

This isn't (just) about credit, it's about creating a chain of custody for information.
