Invest #93L appears to be in the early stages of a center reformation this afternoon, with radar reflectivity showing the previous sharp trough beginning to consolidate on the northern side at the mid-levels. This MLC is not closed off yet, but it will slowly do so this evening.

An unbelievable amount of mammatus clouds seen from DIA about 10 minutes ago. Can’t believe these are real. #COwx

Had always envisioned the days of waiting for a Microwave pass on a developing TC would end when we launched *more* satellites. Not with the unnecessary discontinuation of the satellites we already have. I guess everything goes backwards now.
A huge blow was dealt to hurricane forecasters this week as a critical tool was abruptly terminated by the Department of Defense and NOAA. The immediate discontinuation of data from three weather satellites will severely impact hurricane forecasts this season and beyond. More ⬇️
Critical Hurricane Forecast Tool Abruptly Terminated
U.S. Department of Defense announced Tuesday it would no longer process and deliver data essential to most hurricane forecasts

I have had the distinct displeasure of realizing that a career in meteorology research is the best fit for me while at the same time watching that career path disappear from in front of my eyes.

Hopefully this does not make it into the final budget. The consequences for American science are dire.
The 2026 budget passback plan calls for eliminating NOAA Research, the scientific backbone that keeps weather forecasts, alerts, and warnings accurate and effective. This would have disastrous consequences.

Should be nearly 80 on Saturday in NJ—perfect timing for my spring break.

Also, it’s once again backdoor cold front season!

Been spending the last few days making a custom Matplotlib theme and playing with Herbie, which is becoming my favorite weather Python module.

These are RTMA temp and wind gust loops from this past Sunday’s severe wind event. Lots of trees were damaged or uprooted in Ithaca from these storms.
