The top 10% of richest Americans own 87% of stocks.

The top 1% alone own roughly half of all stocks.

It's worth pointing out once again that the stock market is not the economy.

This is an excellent and timely book. Makes an important contribution now but will continue to be a primer for the conversation going forward. Most importantly it makes you think. Also, readable and well written.

How does Moscow view Donald Trump at the end of 2025? One Russian paper today: “The US leader’s philosophy is closer to the values of Russia’s president, not the politicians of the Old World…he sees Europe as a liberal stronghold to be destroyed…” #ReadingRussia youtu.be/7EwZNk6KgHU

Total cakeism: people know that current state pension systems are unaffordable but they don’t want to pay more or work longer. No wonder democratic government is failing. Anyone telling the truth loses the election.

Thanks to Ulster University, where I learned to love learning and was taught how to be a journalist, for this very generous award. I'm especially grateful to my outstanding English Literature lecturers Kathleen McCracken and Joe McMinn, and superb journalism lecturer Colm Murphy.
Today we were honoured to have journalist & author Sam McBride as the Distinguished Graduate of the Year 2025 supported by Allstate.

An Ulster graduate, Sam is now NI Editor of the Belfast Telegraph & The Sunday Independent & NI Correspondent for  The Economist.

“In 2017 there was not a single asylum seeker who arrived on a boat. Today we have 46,000 a year and do you know why? It was because of the botched Brexit deal pushed through by Boris Johnson and championed by Nigel Farage. Nigel Farage should be here apologising”

🏘️ Our Poverty in Northern Ireland report shows housing costs, once a relatively modest pressure compared with other parts of the UK, have become a central risk factor of poverty.

Despite ambitious targets, social housing completions have fallen far short of what’s needed.

Saw the Stray Gaiters at the American Bar yesterday and it was one of the best gigs I've ever been at. Brilliant realisation of Neil Young's music - great musicianship, sensitive and layered.

"Is it not time that we had a proper consideration in this House of changes to the voting system, so that the next election is not a disaster for democracy?"

I'd like to see an interrogation of the pro Russia talking points that Gill's colleagues mirrored. And while we're at it what about the funding of that house in Clacton - answers to date less than definitive.

For what it’s worth, as a commander and officer it was my duty, moral obligation, and legal requirement to first question and then to not obey any illegal order I was given.

The same is true for everyone who swear their oath.

Hope that clears things up.
