I'm not much of a church goer these days, but I had a gig at a UCC this morning. The sermon about loving your neighbor, esp. the bit about not picking who you consider your neighbor, really hit home. "Christians" who support locking people in cages sure as hell aren't following Christ's teachings.

Taking a break from revisions.

Curious how y'all approach this? I started with ~10 pages of notes, created my board, then wrote 2 new chapters.

I'm now going back and tackling emotionality in each scene, which seems to be my nemesis.

My editor has pointed out (rightly so), that my MC could use more emotional depth. So I've spent the whole day trying on confusion, anger, and terror. (Don't worry, things get brighter.) I am quite literally emotionally drained. I could use some good resources if anyone has any reccs.

My writing helpers. KitKat (the tuxedo) and Jelly Bean (brown tabby). They’re siblings. When the sunlight hits KitKat you can see faint stripes under the black.

I’ve added more colors and layers to my revision board. I think I’m avoiding the actual revising 😅

Just one final proofread before Into the Sealight goes live!

In the meantime, please enjoy the first poem in this volume along with my ramblings about growing up in a (NOT HAUNTED) carriage house.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of my father's death. Please be careful out there.

Conserving our environment is an American value. From hikers to hunters we want to keep our public lands public! Thats why the unprecedented sell-off of millions of acres of public lands needs to be removed from the Senate Budget Bill.

Nature is non partisan! 🇺🇸

Pass it on!

My first book is back from the editor!! I wasn’t sure quite what to expect but I’m so pleased with the feedback. There’s work to be done for sure, but I feel like I have a strong roadmap now. Just gotta wait for the cat to move so I can get up and get started.

My father's alter ego, morris, arrived in late 1969 and stayed by his side until his (my father's) death six years later.

While working on the first post-humous publication of his (or maybe, their) poetry, I ponder: Who is morris?

Prepping 50-year old poetry to for modern typesetting and eReaders has not been without its challenges. I'm happy to share what worked and what didn't.

Can't wait to read this!
If you like spooky Middle Grade, or know kids that like spooky MG, @maryaverling.bsky.social is a heck of a storyteller. I loved The Curse of Eelgrass Bog, and I could hardly put The Ghosts of Bitterfly Bay down this weekend. I can't wait to read what she writes next.

I've been quiet here, I know. Work, illness, kidstuff. But behind the scenes, I've been busy.

Into the Sealight: Volume I — poems from the 1960s by Robert Pawlikowski — is coming soon.

Cover reveal shortly, but in the meantime, here's a short update:https://robertpawlikowski.com

My first book is off to an editor!! So while she's doing her magic, I'm working to *finally* compile my father's poetry for publication.

He drowned in 1975 while rescuing me and my sisters who'd been swept out to sea by a riptide.

This is the beginning of a long-overdue celebration of his work.

To monarchize, be fear'd and kill with looks,
Infusing him with self and vain conceit,
As if this flesh which walls about our life,
Were brass impregnable, and humour'd thus
Comes at the last and with a little pin
Bores through his castle wall, and farewell king!

Shakespeare, Richard II

Some poison'd by their wives: some sleeping kill'd;
All murder'd: for within the hollow crown
That rounds the mortal temples of a king
Keeps Death his court and there the antic sits,
scoffing his state and grinning at his pomp,
Allowing him a breath, a little scene,

I think Shakespeare said it best:

For God's sake, let us sit upon the ground
And tell sad stories of the death of kings;
How some have been deposed; some slain in war,
Some haunted by the ghosts they have deposed;
Some poison'd by their wives: some sleeping kill'd;
