We pour billions into saving an economically tiny steel industry whilst actively destroying one of our largest export industries. (Yes, higher education to overseas students who already massively subsidise UK students, are counted as exports).

“Once you’ve seen how these systems are cobbled together – the biases, the rushed timelines, the constant compromises – you stop seeing AI as futuristic and start seeing it as fragile,” said Adio Dinika... “In my experience it’s always people who don’t understand AI who are enchanted by it.”
Meet the AI workers who tell their friends and family to stay away from AI
When the people making AI seem trustworthy are the ones who trust it the least, it shows that incentives for speed are overtaking safety, experts say

In April 2010 we went to Glaziers’ Hall. Lawrence Lee was elected Master of the Worshipful Company of Glaziers in 1974 and introduced practicing stained glass artists into the Company at an affordable rate - most members until then had been wealthy businessmen. 1/5 #StainedGlassSunday

What could I find for #SaturdayMono that was crochet/textile related? Well here's one of my favourite scarves. The pattern is Blossom Scarf by Kate Veselunka Kosenko and you can find her on Ravelry (you can find me there too as Mermaid Wiggle). #Crochet

Tweedy crocheted flowers. The first one had its larger petals/leaves needle felted. Experimenting is fun! #FlowersOnFriday #Crochet

#ThrowbackThursday to the start of my crochet journey. In 2014 I learnt to crochet making one square a day for a year, until I had 360. I spent the last 5 days finishing up the joining of the final block of 30, and bordering the whole thing. Here are the first four months. #CrochetMoodBlanket

Why do people on TV programmes who are rifling through drawers only partially open them, rustle a few things, then close them again? Open it and have a proper look!

Some cheery crocheted bunting for #MondayBunting - you can either make a granny triangle as you would a granny square by just making three sides instead of four, or you can start with a circle and 'triangle it off'. Quick and easy, crochet a chain along the edges and in between. #CrochetStashBuster

We were invited to the Royal Society of Chemistry in 2010 where two of Lawrence Lee's windows are installed, on two landings on one of the staircases. The light outside wasn't ideal but the windows were glorious. They're constructed in 'slab glass' glued to plain glass. #StainedGlassSunday 1/2

The lack of respect white men have for women, but specifically Black women, is next level bullshit!

Who raised these assholes?

There is no room in our future for the most educated demographic in our country to be treated this way!

Honey fungus. Beautiful, but it can be deadly to trees. Sometimes you'll see tree stumps surrounded by them - this often means the tree lost the battle. Photographed in a local cemetery. #MushroomMonday

Lawrence Lee's window, St James, Milton, Portsmouth with Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane. Most art has him looking upwards, some with light reaching him from heaven. Here Lee has his head buried in his arms with two-directional light foreshadowing the cross he will bear. #StainedGlassSunday 1/3

I thought it was just about knitting, as continually advertised, with contestants being referred to as knitters in all the ads and now the programme. Yet from the start we see a hook, and pics of actual crochet too. As a crocheter I'm disappointed by this omission. #GameOfWool #CrochetersOfBluesky

Our final day on this trip took us to Ockham, Cranleigh, Milford and Guildford. Images of Lawrence Lee's window of William of Occam can be found easily online, including drawings and other versions. These are all my own work. The main image is quite small in the window. #StainedGlassSunday 1/4

When my "smart" TV stops working and I google, I'm told restart router, check wifi, make sure router isn't obstructed (as if I'd suddenly moved it after so many years or built a wall round it) or to ring a line that charges to help - yet what ALWAYS works is turning the flaky TV off and on again.

Superb piece by @jamesbloodworth.bsky.social in this month's @bylinetimes.bsky.social mag: "Britain's Media Has Let Nigel Farage Reshape Political Journalism - Why?" This article alone was worth my annual sub to one of the very few news outlets still doing proper journalism

On our second day in January 2010, we took Lawrence Lee to a church in Pett, Sussex, to see one of his windows. He was a very sprightly 100 years old and fascinated by my satnav. We were met at the church by two local historians very keen with questions. #StainedGlassSunday #LawrenceStanleyLee 1/4
