We've been looking at historic human inner ear sections - this from the late 1920s.

The histology stain used is written on, in this case "Kulchitsky Weigert Pal". With no training in the area I've looked up what this is, & as a consequence who Kulchitsky was.

Strap in, it's quite a story. 🧪🔬

The US Food & Drug Administration has approved a pill version of the weight-loss drug Wegovy, according to maker Novo Nordisk.

It is the first to gain approval for a pill version of the GLP-1 drug, which has only been available as an injection.

‘Miracle’ of Zealandia: chick born to rare takahē pair thought to be infertile.

The arrival is significant for the threatened takahē population. Like many New Zealand birds, takahē evolved without land mammals, & are vulnerable to introduced predators.

For today's #hillfortswednesday: A clip of a superb #Welsh hillfort. Tre'r Ceiri is located 450 metres above sea level, on an exposed peak of Yr Eifl on the Llŷn Peninsula in #Gwynedd . It is one of the best preserved & was one of the most densely populated hillforts in #Britain.

A genetic therapy has reversed aggressive & incurable blood cancers in ~64% of patients in a trial.

Last year, >18,000 older people living with dementia left their homes & went missing in Japan. Almost 500 were later found dead.

People are now adopting GPS-based systems to keep track of those who go missing.

A diamond-studded locket swallowed by a New Zealand man who tried to steal it has been "recovered", police say.

The Fabergé egg locket, valued at NZ$33,585 ($19,300; £14,600), was recovered in a "natural" manner.
