It’s that time of year in central Texas when everyone else is talking about the coming of “fall” and you steel your soul because you still have two more months of heat before it cools down in any meaningful way.

Well it’s official now, the email has gone out— I will be one of the Editors of Church History starting this summer. Brandon Bayne and I will be holding down all of the American Christianity section— for submissions related to ALL of the Americas. I’m really excited!

I learned how to navigate LA county with the Thomas Guide from the time I was about 10. When my mom had to take me with her in the period of meetings before the semester started in late summer my job was to listen to the radio, see if any freeways were backed up and re-route as needed.

Cats were both sound asleep when their heads suddenly popped up and the floor lamps started to sway. As a Californian I know a quake when I feel one and yup, it was just south east of us in Karnes County. 4.5. Real weird to feel that here. #earthquake

Just over here charging up my Jackery, solar camping lights and making sure my headlamp has plenty of batteries. Texas, I don’t trust your triflin’ self when it comes to winter weather.

CAL FIRE has issued a Level 2 - be ready to evacuate within an hour's notice - for Santa Monica, California, north of Montana Blvd and west of 266th Street.

If you live in this area, treat this as a Level 3 order and please evacuate. The situation will deteriorate quickly.

So Cal homies, get out if you are in this evac zone or nearby! The winds are fierce so even if you are just outside the mandatory zone I would pack and be ready to go.
Please stay safe!

I’m gonna be a grump but I hate the Macy-fied beginning of the Rose Parade these days. This should be high stepping bands, horses and floats and that’s it. Give me a real parade. #roseparade

Had a little fun at Target taking selfies with random stuffies I found while waiting for my Covid booster to defrost. Got boosted and just reminding y’all to do the same!

Crazy sounds coming from an electrical outlet so I unplug stuff and call for help. Repair guy shows up and is like “yeah it’s wired totally wrong” and I’m like “wait what?” And he’s like “yeah it’s been an issue here.” Anyway I was about to Evacuate the cats and I but now it’s fixed I guess? 🤷🏽‍♀️

Lenny says it’s too early for your pumpkin spice and autumn shenanigans. It’s still 105 over here and we don’t talk about “fall” until it’s November and at least 75 out.

There’s nothing like realizing your gallbladder misadventure has cost you about 5k in sum total and yet you are still short like $200 to the out of pocket max. Healthcare this year ate a bunch of money I was saving to buy a house and I still have to keep paying for it….
