body hair drawing tips i put together very quickly for tumblr :)

a black and white cropped drawing of a shirtless man. the text reads: body hair drawing tips from someone that likes bears a normal amount. artists note: i'm gonna use my own OC for the visuals, but i recommend looking up reference first! everyone has different body hair; different thickness, layout, pattern, etc. two side by side drawings of a shirtless man, one flat colors and one depicting a diagram of how body hair flows on the body. the text reads: i often see people learning to draw body hair draw it all going the same direction, up and down. This usually looks a little strange - that's because body hair doesn't have the weight to fall straight down. instead, body hair tends to flow with the shape of the body. consider the center line of the bod as a convergence point, where the hair around it flows kind of like a rip current. two drawings of the same shirtless man, side by side. the one on the left is flat colored, while the one on the right is a kind of topographical map of body hair distribution. The text on the image reads: this already looks a lot more natural, but doesn't take density into account. Consider where hair might grow thickets on the body - this isn't universal, and will vary from person to person! This repeated double curved line pattern is my best friend. Remember! Hair grows everywhere! If you want to commit to drawing bears: very hairy people will likely have hair on their shoulders, upper arms, back, etc. Two drawings side by side, the one on the left is the same shirtless man, flatly colored, while the drawing on the right is a black and white close up of the previous image to zoom in on the lineart. The text on the image reads: typically, the denser the hair, the darker it will be. Adding a variety of shades is important to selling the look! I personally like to add density into the lineart itself, with the thicker black lines representing the densest areas. For someone particularly hairy, the hair will actually obscure the shape of things like the pecs and abs, so i will paint over or erase chunks of the lineart to show the hair is laying on top of the body. Lines should overlap, especially in the thickest areas.

This was such a delight to roleplay! One of the best dnd games of my entire life 🥹
Sort of Character Sheet of my original dungeons and dragons (2024) character, Naj'all Armgo, from house Barrison Del'Armgo. At the end of our game "The Wounds Once Made", he was punished by Lolth with the most dreadful of curses for a drow, to be turned into a Drider. Naj'all is a tall drow elf man, with long disheveled white hair, red eyes with black scleras and an ugly scar on his face. His jaw splits into two separate parts. His torso is attached to the bodyof a black-purplish spider with 8 spiky legs. In the top left of the image a portrait of his face, scowling at the viewer with an impassive expression. In the top right there are two Sava pieces he himself cut from onix stones. The Mother has toppled the Warrior. In the corner, a broken brooch from his former house from Menzoberranzan, Barrison Del'Armgo.
