2 years after Dr. Baron's request, I thought about it for a while.

3 additional suggestions:

a) @ashleytrubin.bsky.social 's "Rocking Qualitative Social Science"

b) Jennifer Cyr and @saragoodman.bsky.social 's edited volume "Doing Good Qualitative Research"

Hey Polisky since I’m a bit crunched on time I’d thought I’d crowdsource - does any have a favorite book for a research design and qualitative research course? Im wondering if there’s a good book that covers both, and hopefully limit my pouring over 50 books that are maybes

Looks great! One of the most exciting developments in law & society is how much more international it's become in recent years, and it's great to see that reflected in the field's top journals.

I know folks will have different views on questions about theory, the rules governing and purpose of social science research, and how to combat the credibility crisis we're facing. But I'd like to have the conversation. I hope this piece is generative!

Haven't read @ashleytrubin.bsky.social's article yet, but disagree with her at least 70% here. I do think there is a problem with sociologists confusing politics for theory (and thus above scientific critique), but I don't think they shouldn't do politics, and radicals don't cause authoritarianism

Something I don't think I say in any of my advice, bc it's more aimed at established/senior scholars: if you're meeting a junior scholar for coffee, you buy their coffee. I'm always surprised to hear when folks don't do this. I don't care if the jr person asked for the meeting. We treat them.

Remains a bizarre complaint among some corners that they aren’t paid for this labor and won’t do it much or at all. Put the big kid pants in and serve the community you benefit greatly from. If only to pay it forward for junior people who don’t have the privilege f saying no as frequently.
Haha, everyone. Very funny. Looks like all academia decided to stop peer-reviewing articles & didn't tell me as a practical joke, so I'd get asked to review a manuscript every other day while my manuscripts take 6+ months for decisions.

Good one, y'all. But joke's over now. Please review stuff.
