🤍 Sometimes the most creative act begins with a pause. I’m postponing the Spring Art-Based Healing Group set for 4/13. It’s important to honor alignment between offerings and capacity. My private practice continues and welcomes new clients.✨Read: arttherapywithnicole.substack.com/p/sometimes-...

Keep thinking today about how, because I write about art, I've paid literally thousands of dollars in image permission fees for the multiple books & articles by me that appear in the LibGen database - and how these tech companies then turned around and used my work for no compensation whatsoever

Business Insider asked me to write about packing to evacuate, how in that terrifying moment, all that mattered was finding the pictures of my birth mother. She died 29 years ago today, and today, they published the essay. Can't think of a better way to honor her than sharing this story. #LosAngeles
During the Los Angeles fires, I had minutes to pack my emergency bag. I took the few photos I have of my birth mother.
I only had a few minutes to pack my emergency bag when the LA fires crept close to my house. I had to pack photos of my birth mother, who I never met.

Art and culture make us human, and the impact of climate change on these facets of society do not garner enough attention.

Artists’ entire collections of work up in flames, antique books lost to a flood, sled dog races canceled for lack of snow.

Community is heavy on my mind as LA County faces devastating fires. From my window, I see an ominous sky & breathe toxic air, grateful for safety, aware of our collective vulnerability. This deep need for connection led me to reflect on creative community: open.substack.com/pub/artthera...

The power of creative community keeps drawing me back as we enter 2025. What happens when we create together? How does making art in the presence of others—even virtually—change our experience? What has been your experience of creating in community? 🎨🖌️✨

🍂 As we close NAAM & enter the season of gratitude, I'm reflecting on the complexity of being "grateful" as an adopted person. We can hold genuine gratitude for aspects of our lives while honoring adoption loss. Our full experience is valid.
