Oh thank goodness they made a non-binding statute now I’m sure climate change will be solved in 5-10 business days
The United Nations’ highest judicial body ruled that nations must prevent environmental harm and limit greenhouse gas emissions. The nonbinding decision pressures countries to fulfill climate pledges and opens doors for global climate cases.
U.N. court rules countries have duty to limit greenhouse emissions
The court was asked to rule on whether nations are obligated under international law to protect the Earth’s climate from planet-warming emissions.

I just called the office of my rep. Jim Himes to express my anger that he voted to censure Al Green. Really cannot believe he did that.

I told his staffer to let him know many of us feel he should have followed Congressman Green right out that door in solidarity.

People, make your calls. Now.

Trump has rolled back a Biden order that mandated negotiations to the lower cost of drugs for people using Medicare and Medicaid.

Medicare had just announced 15 more drugs whose prices they were going to bring down in negotiations with Big Pharma.

Do you ever see news that’s perfectly innocuous, but is actually the last straw to make you remember that humans have basically been falling off a cliff for the past 200 years and getting scarily close to the ground?

Yeah me neither.

Merry Christmas I got you worse wages for more hours
As Amazon workers threaten to strike before Christmas, Trump says he's planning to meet with Jeff Bezos this week.

"He seems to have a lot of energy around reducing regulation, and my point of view, if I can help him do that, I’m going to help him," Bezos said recently.

On the point of the United CEO shooting, I don’t think enough people are recognizing the difference in police reaction to this murder relative to any other murder that happens in NYC. We had a nation wide manhunt for the guy simply because the person he killed was rich — that’s what gets me.

I will never defend healthcare in the US because it’s an evil industry. But the distinction here is between pointless isolated revenge and a structured revolutionary party. We celebrate the rebels in Star Wars because they toppled an oppressive regime, not because they killed millions of people.
taking revenge against evil in the name of preventing future harm is literally the plot of star wars. (among many other heroic stories)

"destroying the death star makes you just as bad as the empire" is just... look, even the jedi weren't that dumb.

I get that it’s cathartic to celebrate the death of someone terrible, but as soon as you enter the realm of justifying the murder of someone on account of the bad that they’ve done, you’ve entered the same trap as capital punishment and criminal justice in general.
December 7, 2024 at 12:35 PM
Ignoring the ethics of celebrating the murder of someone, Brian Thompson’s death isn’t going to do shit to fix the healthcare system in the US or even United Health specifically. It’s lovely to pin blame to individuals, but it’s a problem with the system, not just a bad guy at the top of the system

I entirely understand the concern about tech companies stealing people’s data, but only caring about TikTok rather than Meta is pretty explicitly xenophobia

Gosh was this the guy that prevented editorials in his newspaper from endorsing a candidate? If only we knew why he did that.

Guess we’ll never know.
Shockingly another one of the richest guys on Earth wants to defund our government and scrap regulations.

I understand the sentiment of this, but it’s hyperbolic to say there was basically no outcry about Trump’s pardons — there was significant protest. I think it’s more valuable to acknowledge the distinction in severity between the two actors being pardoned rather than engaging in whatabout-ism.
100% accurate.

I’m not sure what exactly Yoon’s plan was if he just immediately conceded to the National Assembly’s decision. I’m anti-martial law, but if you’re gonna declare martial at least have the follow-through to do a coup!

Jeez

The reason why there have never been any liberalism ➡️ fascist revolutions is because the former system can simply be shaped into the latter with the "right" people at the helm.
