Had an open & honest conversation today with my friend and psychotherapist David Schlosz about the mental health needs specific to the Christian community. David asked great questions and I appreciate his engagement around this topic.

I'm doing ok until I see the things my youngest, an environmental science major, reposts on TikTok. GenZ uses humor which I appreciate but I grieve for them. I'm so proud of my girls having dreams bigger than mine ever were & I hate it that they're being squashed by this administration.

I know that people like to joke about how their therapist thinks they're funny but really they're using humor to avoid pain. Today my spiritual director affirmed my use of humor as a mechanism to access playfulness during difficulty.

Me: So I hear you saying you think I'm FUNNY?!?!

Trump should stop him.

We invited pastors from the Congolese immigrant church that we partner with to share about their experience right now & to pray w them.

People wept.

They asked me to stay for their service to instruct their members how to stay safe from ICE and the police.

I got in my car afterwards and wept.

Me: On Sunday I think I'm going to say [smart & comforting things about the horrors happening]
22-yr-old: Mmm that's good bread
Me: Thank you...I think so too

I realize she's talking about the crust of the pizza she's eating & not using cool GenZ slang to affirm what I just said. Kids are humbling.

Today’s show was my last at CNN. My closing message: It’s never a good time to bow down to a tyrant… don’t give in to the lies. Don’t give in to fear. Hold on to the truth… and hope.

As a kid in Sunday school I learned about the Good Samaritan & was told to be like him. The people who taught me that voted for this administration & all the cruelty that comes with it. I can't make it make sense. It breaks my heart, but it hasn't stopped me from helping people in the name of Jesus.

The guy is 53 years old.
He's almost a trillionaire.
He employs many thousands of people.
He's running multiple billion-dollar businesses.
He's made the "heart with hands" gesture. 🫶
He's had access to the same historical information we all have since grade school...

Our neighbor is having the fence replaced today. She's paying for it and she had Duncan Donuts delivered to us for the inconvenience of having to keep our dogs in all day. I'm not sure what we did to deserve her but I love her.

The new neighbors have preschool age kids who play in their backyard every morning. We leave our back door open for the dogs to go out and can hear the laughing and chatter of the kids next door as they play. What a delightful new way to begin our mornings.

Just attended a crash course in immigration law. Never imagined that as a pastor I'd need to know how to advocate for and protect immigrants from unfair immigration enforcement -- including possibly removing protections from churches as sanctuaries. Now I know what to say and do if ICE shows up.
