Iowa doesn't have enough OB-GYNs. Is the state's abortion ban part of the problem?

Glenn Cohen did a great job testifying about the gaps in genetic privacy law!
Bioethics law expert: The main privacy protection for 23andMe customers is just a promise the company has made in its privacy statement. But if you read more closely, the privacy statement provides much less protection than it appears to.

It was so great to be able to watch this hearing in person. Congress can do much more to protect genetic privacy.
The best “intentions” of 23andMe don’t mean much. I care about protecting our most sensitive information from misuse.

We need stronger federal privacy laws.
Sen. DURBIN: There’s little to guarantee the next buyer won’t abuse your consumer protection policy, right?

Interim 23andMe CEO: *canned statement*

Durbin: Three buyers removed, your best intentions don’t mean much. Do they?

CEO: I can’t testify to future intentions.

Chilling… and predictable.
Abortion should just be decriminalised. The police should be nowhere near any of this.

These sorts of requirements make a mockery of our notice and consent privacy framework. “We respect privacy and will only do x, y, and z with your permission.” “….side note: if you don’t give all the permissions, nothing in this app will work.”
Looks like on Android 16, you can no longer get directions without enabling "location accuracy" (i.e. sharing your location with Google so that they can improve the location service)
