Vandaag verscheen mijn opiniestuk in @demorgen.be. In het stuk reageer ik op Vlaams minister van Media Cieltje Van Achters analyse van sociale media als de “nieuwe verzuiling”. Ik betoog dat deze metafoor te eenvoudig is.

For those students interested in both philosophy and digital transformation, we now have a BA at Tilburg University that combines philosophy with basic training in computer science and a focus on philosophy of technology. Cool stuff if you ask me.

🔍 How do we experience social media algorithms? Is there such a thing?
My latest article in Minds and Machines challenges the black box metaphor and uses phenomenology to rethink algorithms. Happy to discuss!

🎉 New article out in AI & Society!

🔍 My article challenges the idea that algorithms replace human judgment. Instead, they mediate the human-world relations in which judgments and self-reflection arise.

💬 Happy to discuss!

"A request made through ChatGPT, an AI-based virtual assistant, consumes 10 times the electricity of a Google Search"

This isn't a game. This is accelerated destruction via huge usage of power, water, resources etc. Stop using it - especially for messing about!!

AI has an environmental problem. Here’s what the world can do about that.
The sprawling data centres that house AI servers churn out toxic electronic waste and are voracious consumers of electricity, which in most places is still produced from fossil fuels.
