i don't actually believe that conceding to people who don't have time to sit through an MMO story is the way to go because the people you're targeting by and large aren't going to develop into devout players that keep feeding you money; they're just gonna dick around a bit and dip.

i wince a little every time i see someone suggest "fixing" XIV by just letting people skip ahead or ignore content, given that every MMO which lets you be freeform like that ends up leaving old content dead in the dust
