It's the first anniversary! Last December, @xraylitmag.bsky.social published my sad Santa #flashfiction Lone Wolves. These two Santas inspired the #Santa in the #magicalrealism story.

Yesterday's podcast for #writers was on character.
Key takeaway: Identity should be verb-based not noun-based. Basing identity on things they do informs their actions; defining it through nouns makes characters shallow.

I'm a bit of a kid in that I love watching them, but I've never liked lighting them up myself, and would be happy if private use was forbidden. The environmental issue is a strong argument for me, too.

Started the day with @yogawithadriene.bsky.social and this video. Love how ujjayi breath grounds and calms. Nothing beats starting the day with #yoga

I watched a couple of grown-up kids fire off fireworks from their hands this year and was sweating bullets on my balcony. After a few went off not far above my head, I went in doors. Still feels crazy unsafe it to me!
Also, always love these little insights you share! Thank you, and Happy New Year!

Definitely suffers! One of the reasons I start the year will a course and blocked times in my calendar.

I love how coincidences come together into a series of stepping stones. If you are thinking of doing your own #writingretreat, here's a nifty article on how to go about it: fundsforwriters.com/how-to-creat...

The schedule above is for starting small and on a shoestring.

How to Create Your Own DIY Writing Retreat on a Budget | FundsforWriters
The words ‘writing retreat’ might summon up images of a week in a lakeside cabin with a posh notebook, a pot of coffee, and birdsong for company. But for many of us, work, family and budgets such imag...

How about kicking off 2026 with your own #writingretreat on the first weekend of the year, #writingcommunity? Here's a schedule suggestion. You can follow it both days or just one.
I'll be listening to @writingexcuses.bsky.social and #amwriting to their homework.
And you? Let me know how it goes!

Each year, I do a few 30-day #yoga challenges with @yogawithadriene.bsky.social. This year, I'm starting with Breath because I need to breathe again. Just finished another video and feel more balanced. Highly recommend! It's not too late to start: Jan 2 is Day 1!

My cartographical sci-fi story “Mapping the Well” is now available to read in Solstitia Issue 4!

A stellar cartographer finds her efforts at mapping the stars and the space between them stymied by a mythical alien beast that lives in those very spaces between.
The new issue of #Solstitia is out today, with short stories, art, and poetry focusing on the theme of “dragon hoards”

Our supporters on Patreon get it free, but you can buy it here: fiction-fans-shop.fourthwall.com/products/sol...

I love this thread & that you're working through all those tabs! I used to just give up. When my laptop went on strike from carrying too many tabs, I'd copy the links into a note that I'd forget. Now I'm using Notion with hopes that if I tag properly, things will pop up at opportune moments 🤞

Needed this story this morning which made me think more abt how in a world corrupted down to the guts by greed, it’s community that’s the safety net 😭✨
New from Reckoning 8, “It’s in the Blood” by Susan Kaye Quinn is a story about fighting the bad with everything you’ve got. We’ve bought work in the past that’s come out months later and felt newly relevant, but this is one we needed yesterday and we’ll need tomorrow: reckoning.press/its-in-the-b...

I'd love to read more books using Hecate as a character and hadn't come across this series until now. Is Hecate in all books? I'm not all too fond of Hades and Persephone narratives, guess that's why I missed this one.
