Today's budget was underwhelming and troubling. Our leaders always have the choice of who makes the "sacrifice" — everyday people, the most vulnerable, big corporations, or the most wealthy. This budget asks us to tighten our belts while military & oil companies find themselves flush with cash.
Budget 2025 shows that ‘austerity’ applies to efforts to protect people and the planet—but that more money can always be found for military spending and polluting industries.

It's winning time!!! Mamdani's win caps off a brilliantly run campaign and gives us a shot in the arm for what movements already know: that we can & will win by telling the truth, demanding big things & refusing to dance with the establishment. Now watch the doubters pretend they were in all along!
Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral race on Tuesday, marking a historic win for the left over a high-powered, moneyed coalition of establishment forces that came together in hopes of defeating him.

I actually don't think Canadians should prepare to make sacrifices so the military budget and AI investments can be scaled up, ultimately benefitting private contractors and big businesses.

Israel is piling crime on top of crime on top of crime.

No wonder it is determined to bring down the entire edifice of international humanitarian law - it's the only hope of protecting itself from consequences.

Btw: the allegations are significantly worse than bedbugs.

And eternal shame to the European states who refused to protect it from Israeli assault and establish a corridor for aid to Gaza.

Malaysian national oil company Petronas just dumped 20% of its portfolio of Canadian gas assets - including a slice of its stake in LNG Canada - to MidOcean Energy… which is part owned by Saudi Aramco. Canada’s sole LNG export terminal is owned by four foreign NOCs. Nation-building projects anyone?

It's impossible to imagine multilateralism solving climate or *anything* while genocide continues.

So these #COP30 demands are the bare minimum. Leaders from @lulaoficialbluesky.bsky.social to @mark-carney.bsky.social must adopt energy & arms embargos NOW 🍉

Every year we get a clearer picture of the opportunity cost of our current path of austerity and war.

Canada must step up to pay its fair share to the Global South, not as an act of charity, but as an act of unlocking climate action for all of us.
🚨New research🚨Rich countries can unlock $6.6 trillion for climate action by ending fossil fuels handouts, making polluters pay, defunding wars, taxing the super rich. There’s no shortage of $$ for action. It’s just in the wrong hands.

I always say that one of the best gifts that @sethdklein.bsky.social has given us is his economic imagination.

This is a very important piece on the real economic vision (drawn from wartime lessons) needed in this chaotic moment: www.nationalobserver.com/2025/04/02/o...

Crises are no time for timidity
Canada's response to Donald Trump's economic attacks will require imagination and audacity. Canada can and should mobilize its own public institutions and Crown corporations to do the heavy lifting.
