What is "bit rot"? How safe are your data? Researching this for future episodes on the subject brought me to the Centre of Computing History in Cambridge www.computinghistory.org.uk where I talked to Adrian Page-Mitchell, who showed me a "decaying" laser disc (BBC Domesday project).

Everyone wants to blame the content: misinformation, bots, polarisation. That mistakes catalysts and symptoms for the underlying causes. The crisis isn’t bad information, it's that the very information infrastructure we relied on to create a shared understand of the world had changed completely.

It's a reliable *shocked Pikachu face* line for audiences, but I have to explain that when we started archiving Ukrainian cultural heritage websites, the instability of the power grid in the Bay Area was a bigger impediment and risk than Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure.
