She knew it was performance; textbook manipulation. Exploiting her vulnerability to make her more amenable to what he wanted her to do while he was behind bars. Lindsey didn't care. A clawing in her soul screamed "I miss my family. Take the fake hug and pay its cost."

That always stuck with me. The hypothetical girl-me named Haley, growing up along with me, in my mind. When I transitioned, I took it as my middle name. Haley was born after all.
