As Brexit doubled immigration:
It led to record race hate crime.
Violent street riots.
The rise of the fascists.
And an explosion of racism.

We'd be foolish not to recognise that Brexit has made the UK a distinctly more unpleasant, racist country.

Watched Toxic Town today on Netflix, an absolutely fab drama covering a very real injustice in Corby - all the while showcasing the quietly brilliant talent we have in the UK

"One of the most damaging consequences of Brexit is the loss of freedom of movement. UK citizens could previously study and work in Europe indefinitely, visa-free...

For those from less fortunate backgrounds, these challenges could prohibit studying abroad."
How Brexit has made studying abroad less accessible
Freedom of movement enriched the lives of many young people before Brexit; it's far more complicated and therefore restricted now

You might consider people who travel about a lot in Europe to be quite “niche” but it brings the UK prosperity to allow proper Freedom of Movement of goods, services, capital and people.
If we are serious about EU membership and mobility then we should be celebrating people who live/work/study/retire across European borders…

Not mocking them, belittling them and saying they’re just “holidaymakers” who deserve Brexit.

EU membership gives people more choices.

In case you missed it ...
When we were in the EU, there were signs all over the place showing how the EU was investing in our towns and regions. And best of all, EU funding was shared out EQUALLY and FAIRLY across all parts of the UK, regardless of which party was in power.

So what next? Accept that Freedom of Movement of people is gone forever?

Or do we explain to politicians why mobility matters?
For many years fanatics have been telling us that the FOM of People, Goods, Services and Capital are inseparable and that we were wrong to focus on improving public acceptance of FOM of People.

Unsurprisingly to me, UK and EU look like they may now contemplate Single Market without FOM of People.

In vast areas of the US, the sentiments expressed in this wonderful letter from a British man about why it's a privilege to pay tax to enable the National Health Service to run would see him probably certified as insane and labelled a "socialist".
