Look what arrived today, or at least the ebook did. This is the first encyclopedia devoted exclusively to medieval women’s writing globally, focusing on the thousand-year period between 500-1500. Entries on about 250 women writers plus longer thematic essays. You’re welcome.

I’ve been grumbling exactly this since the program began. Less about your memories Shaun and more about these athletes and their countries, dammit
While Shaun White has plenty to be proud about for his five Olympics, I cannot believe that NBC did not make him prep facts about the countries or athletes other than the Saudis are building a mountain. Mary Carillo far outshines him in her commentary. No more Shaun, NBC.

There’s a cat that hangs about our local railway station called Olaf.

Seeing him means it’s a good day.
Not seeing him? Nolaf.

Today he was sat on a young lad’s lap, and they were all absolutely buzzing about it.

It’s getting cold in FL, so I’ve got my cozy socks and Bluey jammies and Midsummer Murders to keep my comfy while I write letters of recommendation for some fabulous and deserving colleagues. A perfect Friday night in #Academia

So well put. Myths do this. As I tell my students, metaphorical truths are true
"can descriptions of the past be true," they are "can traditions about pasts that never happened preserve truths," which is a different, methodological question

Same

I have a law degree and a PhD. My PhD is in political science but I'm published in computer science and now work in medical research

STEM vs humanities is stupid as shit lol. Why can't we just enjoy both Star Trek *and* Star Wars??
I should also note that I am someone who has humanities degrees and who *also* has ended up really enjoying doing a lot of STEM-Type-Work professionally: I’m a big fan of both.

And I refuse to play along with the idea that one is superior to the other.
I agree that it’s high fucking time that we stopped acting like we need to grovel and constantly justify the existence of some of our most incredibly elemental and ancient human pursuits.

6000 years ago the first ever human writing recorded medical treatment and grain and livestock counts, but also lists of kings, extensive histories, and elaborate stories and mythologies. It is all part of the shared heritage of all humanity and is of inherent worth and value
I agree that it’s high fucking time that we stopped acting like we need to grovel and constantly justify the existence of some of our most incredibly elemental and ancient human pursuits.
Are the humanities the only disciplines whose classes begin with modules speaking to the importance of studying the humanities? "Why study the humanities?" and "Why the humanities are important" must be cliches.

History doesn’t need any more justification than math does.

Students will get it by the end of the semester.

Or they won’t.
