I wondered if any academic economists had a take on Tom Calver's recent piece in the Sunday Times (archive.ph/Sf8L9) on the impact to the UK economy of Brexit? @sjwrenlewis.bsky.social or @jdportes.bsky.social perhaps? I note Simon's piece from last year (mainlymacro.blogspot.com/2024/04/the-....

Great write up of IfG's findings on local government by the Guardian
EXC: English councils will still be poorer in 2029 than they were in 2010, according to the IfG.

Report finds councils are increasingly providing social care and little else. Libraries, youth services, parks, all falling by the wayside.

As well as the fantasy £234 bn, journalists should also be clear Farage's claims most new migrants don't work, and those who do are on low wages, are entirely false.

In fact, 1.8 million recent migrants are on payrolls (others will be self employed).

UK living standards have collapsed while govt after govt have sat on their hands.

Now the vacuum they left is being filled by fascist agitators like Tommy Robinson and super-rich big-business-backed politicians like Farage.

There is an alternative–and we can all play our part in fighting for it.

we revealed in FT two years ago that Mandelson stayed at Epstein's luxury house in Manhattan while the financier was in jail for soliciting a minor

he was deputy prime minister at the time

always seemed weird that broadcasters didn't really pick this up at the time

I'm not understanding why FA staff including the CEO, Mark Bullingham, aren't losing their jobs over this. It seems a serious misjudgement to have brought the case and there have been serious impacts for the player and the club.

"Shave your legs - I'm coming home...
You show me your face, you show me your eyes
You give me the waves, oh you give me life
You show me your arms, you show me your legs
You give me the ocean, oh don't give me the rest, the rest
Save me, save me
Save me, save me".
