Before the Neo Geo Pocket proved you could make amazing handheld fighting games, Fatal Fury Special (1993) for the #GameGear was an achievement. Fluid combat, easy and responsive special moves, and beautiful 8-bit graphics with lots of colors and parallax—this was the best at the time. #retrogaming

The Legend of Nayuta: Endless Trails is a Japanese #PSP game that came out in 2012. Part of the Trails series, it's gorgeous for a game over 12 years old. Thankfully, due to fan translation, we can enjoy this #Falcom classic that many consider to be one of their masterpieces. #retrogaming

One of my favorite all time RPGs is #PopoloCrois, and now that the entire #PS1 trilogy is fan translated, you can play all three in a row as intended. Such attention to detail, world building, with a unique art style. The isometric landscape provides depth other games of the era lack. #retrogaming

Chase Bombers (1994) was a late bloomer to the #superscaler #arcade wars. Power Drift came out in '88, while Super Mario Kart hit consoles in '92, but Chase Bombers took the experience of both back to arcades in one sprite-scaling, psychedelic rainbow package—it's a hidden gem and rare to boot.

Tengai (1996) is a competent #arcade #shmup with the cutting edge features of the best of the era, namely a character select and unique attacks and abilities. The character designs are all adorable, and the "bomb" attacks all have unique hand-drawn animations. It's also on Switch now! #retrogaming

Space Bomber (1998) by #Psikyo is next level aesthetic trolling. The stupid, pre-rendered sprites and static backdrops feel bad on purpose. Setting that aside, this game kinda rules. The claw mechanic that allows you to capture and attack with your foes is big addictive fun. #arcade #retrogaming

The #arcade #vector classic Red Baron must have been amazing in 1981—this is a full-on flight simulator where you take out enemy fighters and blimps. It's basically a 3D version of Battlezone, and you can even go off course and attack land targets hidden in mountains. Still fun today. #retrogaming

Devil World (1987) is an early #Konami #arcade title that's probably way ahead of its time. It kind of feels like a fantasy version of Zombies Ate My Neighbors, combined with a power-up system resembling Gradius. There's some Gauntlet in here, too. Definitely underrated.
