Andrew Selman - Ward 3 / Hamilton
@andrewselman.bsky.social
Husband, father, proud Hamiltonian.

I’m a data and insights specialist from Ward 3, bringing expertise in analytics and process improvement to community issues, with a focus on public safety and transparent governance.
This Black History Month, I reflect on Private James Franklin.

A #HamOnt teen who enlisted in 1915, Franklin was killed in France in 1916. Historians believe he was the first Black Canadian, and likely the first Black North American, to die in the First World War.

Budget Chair Councillor @ward1wilson.bsky.social has been most impressive in leading the budget process.

What stands out is her ability to acknowledge and validate the concerns raised, while calmly de-escalating tensions and steering the discussion back to the matter at hand

Kudos

Mayor Andrea Horwath, who just moments ago and in her written statements stated that she did not know about the cuts in her own budget, objects to Clr Matt Francis stating he is 'surprised that the Mayor hasn't read what is in her own budget'. #HamOnt #yhmcc

Leadership isn’t about post-hoc commentary.

It means showing up before decisions are made, advancing a disciplined and evidence-based case, and accepting the outcome with resolve, win or lose.

#HamOnt I’m disappointed that yesterday, members of City of Hamilton Council chose to shift the cost of private land development applications onto Hamilton taxpayers - people who are already feeling the strain of rising costs.

Happy Lincoln Alexander Day, Hamilton.

Mr. Alexander was a formidable force in Canadian politics, and right here at home in #HamOnt

Personally, I'll remember him for his refusal to ever accept the status quo.

For years, through rain, shine, sleet, or snow, this group has gathered every weekend to play touch football in Gage Park.

A simple tradition, sustained by community spirit. This is what public space is meant to be.

Hamilton’s Auditor General will speak today to a procurement process so rushed and under-researched that taxpayers paid millions for cabins “sight unseen,” weak oversight, and unchecked costs

It’s time for real accountability #hamont

I will be delegating tomorrow, via pre-recorded video, on the Barton and Tiffany microshelter procurement fiasco.

Under normal circumstances I would be in Council Chambers, but extenuating circumstances prevent that.

My delegation will be followed by Jamie Shortill from Foldum Corp.

Council was told it has taken nine months (yes, 9 months) for HSR managers to process a simple bus stop location request from Flixbus

Other municipalities process these in days, sometimes weeks

Hamilton is Canada's worst-performing municipality in so many areas

287 days until Election Day #yhmcc

The Microshelter saga continues.

Keep your eyes peeled for a press release from an interested party. I understand it's coming rather soon.

Happy New Year #HamOnt

As this year begins, my focus is firmly on the 2026 municipal election and the work ahead in Ward 3.

We’re organized, guided by data, and committed to delivering real results.

Let’s get to work.

Ward 3, 2025 proved something important. When citizens lead, change happens.

We saw long-ignored decay finally dealt with. We saw dignity and accountability brought back to our neighbourhoods. Not through slogans, but through persistence and community pressure #HamOnt

Hey #HamOnt, our quarterly Superintendent’s Advisory Committee meeting was last night, and there’s a lot of progress to share.

The next meeting is in March. Until then, wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

A City Hall contact told me there’s been another privacy breach by staff.

I can’t verify it yet, but after having my own personal info exposed by this City, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised.

#HamOnt still hasn’t adopted the basic privacy-by-design protections every resident should expect.

Thank you to Kate at The Spec for the thoughtful conversation about Ward 3.

Today I delegated to #HamOnt City Council to lay out exactly how By-law has failed Ward 3, and much of the lower city, and what it’ll take to finally fix the system and restore real accountability.

I’ll be at City Hall this week outlining the root causes behind a decade of bylaw neglect in #HamOnt and the systemic decay allowed to grow beside Memorial School.

This isn’t one missed inspection; it’s structural failure. If you care about real fixes, tune in Wednesday.

I hope these individuals are caught as soon as possible.

We cannot allow this type of violence and hate to fester. Check your security cameras, folks.
"Citizens are asked to review any recordings taken between 1:30 am and 2:40 am on October 25, 2025 and to contact police with any information that could assist the investigation"

This is unacceptable. If you saw something, contact police.

I'm so proud of all we've accomplished Ward 3. These burned out buildings beside Memorial School were a hazard going back a decade.

We were ignored by politicians, by bylaw, by everyone who was supposed to keep us safe.

We worked together and demanded better. I knew we'd achieve our goal #HamOnt

Come on. Councillor Nann must think we’re idiots. It’s hard to read a line like that as anything but pure disrespect for people’s intelligence #HamOnt
