In Australia, if someone "lucked out" it would be the same as saying they were out of luck. But I have heard Americans use the phrase "lucked out" to mean they were lucky. I am generally pretty good at translating between English and American, but when meanings are completely backwards it is tricky!

My neurologist once told me I have a 'fantastic-looking brain'. When things get tough, I like to remind myself of this fact.

Right. Time for an education. The phoneme /or/ can be represented by at least 13 different graphemes in the English language, the most common of these being 'or' as in 'corn'. But the letters au spell the sound /or/, also.
Americans are really out there trying to convince the world that "criss-cross, apple sauce" rhymes. 🫤

Today's garden haul. Home grown tomatoes are 1000% better than store bought. And plenty to share with friends! 😍
(Plus a few peppers and chillis thrown in for good measure)

I say "ya'll" regularly. But I have an American husband and many American friends, and I use it as a friendly but subtle dig at them. Like when I used the word "Tom-ay-toes" yesterday. It sounds ridiculous. But it's fun to speak in silly ways sometimes.
Something feels wrong when a Brit/Kiwi/Aussie says "y'all." It's like when an American says "chuffed." Dark and foreboding energy

I just found a "Congratulations on the birth of your baby" card that I forgot to give my friend. That baby is now 6...

I have always loved reading. Growing up, I read any book I could find. Then I started teaching. And my love of reading didn't change but my capacity to read did. I don't have the time to read, or if I do, my eyes won't stay open. But devouring books during summer vacation brings me back to life 😍📚

In Australia, we call a sandwich a "sanga".

All y'all are my nemeses.
Everyone online has some kind of nemesis who doesn’t know they’re a nemesis. You could be that to someone. Your success fuels their spite and you don’t even know it. Let that be the thing that gets you out of bed each morning

A few weeks ago one of my favourite chooks disappeared. I thought she had been taken by a fox and I was very sad. Tonight she turned up with 6 tiny baby chickens! 🥰🐤

When I was a small child, on a hiking trip with my family, it rained non-stop. Young Andrea was drenched and cranky. My mum told me to 'think of it as an adventure' to which I promptly replied that 'I like reading about adventures, I don't like doing them!' Still (mostly) true.

I had yoghurt with my breakfast and there was only a little left in the tub and it seemed silly to put it back in the fridge, so I decided to eat all of it. Bad move. Too much yoghurt. Send help.

People without an internal monologue seem wild to me. I just don't get how they even have thoughts. Or how they can speak or write. My inner monologue thinks the words then I say the words.

Although sometimes I think it would be nice not to have one, because mine is really noisy and bossy.

I just picked 4 peas! I know it's not a lot, but it is the first produce we have gathered from our first ever veggie patch. It represents the time and effort and joy of creating something with someone you love. Sometimes four peas is more than just four peas.

Merry Christmas everyone! We have made it through church this morning, video called my overseas brother, lunch at our house (19 guests!) and then we'll be off to my uncle's for dinner. Now though, it is time for a nap 😴

I love Christmas. I love Christmas food. But my love for cooking and baking Christmas food has its limits.
