Rachel Reeves hints at tax rises in autumn.

The bottom 20% pay a higher proportion of income in taxes than the richest 20%. This must change.

Tax capital gains and dividends at same rate as wages, charge them NIC too.

Levy wealth tax, financial transactions tax, windfall tax on profiteers.
Rachel Reeves hints at tax rises in autumn budget after welfare bill U-turn
Initially aimed at saving £5.5bn, the watered-down welfare bill now leaves the government with an estimated £5.5bn black hole - close to breaching the chancellor's fiscal rules set out last year.

If govts want to cut welfare spending they need to tackle

Poverty
Low wages
Inequitable distribution of income/wealth
Poor healthcare
Corporate profiteering
High rents and cost of living
Regressive taxation

They rarely do.

Instead they scapegoat and punish the poor, old, sick, disabled,

Disabled people rely on disability benefits to meet essential costs like food, bills and housing.

⏰There's less than two weeks to ask your MP to vote against cuts which will see over one million disabled people denied vital support.

About time.

Must attend to causes of homelessness - poverty, power of landlords, low benefits.

Must provide public shelters for those on hard times, reintegrate people on hard times.

The Govt wants to cut PIP to "help" disabled people work but Access to Work is in crisis:
• 6+ month delays
• 20,000 people on wait list (Mar 2025 - up from 5,000 in 2024)
• Missed jobs, lost businesses
• Rising hardship

Cutting PIP won't help. Fixing the system will.

This is why disabled people are worried.
Our member, a care home manager, was asked today to estimate how many disabled residents might be eligible for medically-assisted suicide under the Leadbeater bill and how many places might be freed-up if the option was 'assertively marketed'. Is this the future you want in England?
