The Writing Framework is out and I’m pleased to see the focus on oral composition of sentences and vocabulary. However, the best bit is the paragraph about Developmental Language Disorder & its impact on writing on pg. 81!

Clear message today from @amandafiner.bsky.social - chn & YP need more TIME to process and express their views & we need to really listen. The questions make me think of the phrase “every interaction is an intervention” - can’t underestimate the power of listening and talking #DevLangDis #NAPLIC25

Abraz Hussein, an adult with DLD tells his story. He got through primary without much support, but at start of secondary was permanently excluded. Then went to PRU before getting diagnosed and going to a special school for speech and language. Support makes all the difference!

Not surprised by the reduction in SLCN RPs but seems counter productive when speech, language & communication needs are increasing and we know chn with SLCN struggle academically at school. RPs provide knowledgeable staff and usually more frequent access to speech and language therapy.

Analysis by @fftedudatalab.bsky.social shows an increase in ASD mainstream Resourced Provision but a reduction in SLCN RPs. It's identified LAs with "cold-spots" with no suitable secondary state provision for pupils with ASD and SEMH (and thanks for citing SNJ) ffteducationdatalab.org.uk/2...
