The moment has come again for me to leave socials for a while. Still a few events here and there and I’ll post the odd story when there’s work to share but otherwise I’m off here now to write, write, write for a few months, maybe more.

Be well, see you in time x

A win that speaks volumes. Huge congratulations to the dear, brilliant and indefatigable Shrub, an absolute warrior for nature.
Absolutely delighted that my book THE LIE OF THE LAND has won the Wainwright Prize for Conservation Writing!

This week, one of the book’s recommendations, a ban on moorland burning, became a reality. Next, we need a Nature Bill for England…

Your annual reminder to reconsider ‘weeds’. The teasel, knapweed, ragwort, yarrow, vipers bugloss, wild marjoram burdock and valerian in my garden are all self-introduced and self-seeded and they are indisputably what make it hum.

Reminder that, 10 years ago, Sheffield Council signed a PFI contract which led to the felling of thousands of mature street trees - mainly to save the contractor a few quid. It then took out injunctions against local residents protesting the felling and used arcane anti-union laws to lock them up.
