I get at least three heartbreaking, incoherent emails a day now from random strangers who believe they’ve awakened an LLM god or LLM consciousness of a new dimension. The most salient quote from the screenshots below: “(An LLM) will never just say, ‘Jesse, what the fuck are you talking about??’”
this feels like an incredible new urban legend taking shape on reddit otoh I've lowkey seen this happen. like jerusalem syndrome but for talking to the computer

Lest I be hand-waved away for “emotional responses” to AI I feel pretty okay saying that now is not the moment to be wrapping up data collection and storage in the USA (including potentially sensitive health information) in some pretty culturally deaf marketing and calling it the future.

Non-US educators need to be not just thinking about but planning for data sovereignty for ourselves and our learners, too.
how can you, in good conscience, compel any student to use any piece of education technology right now, knowing that there are no assurances that this information will not be shared with the US government and used against them?

Taxes are good, actually. Big fan. Pay them in several countries. Get services in return, including healthcare! All round awesome-sauce.
I like paying taxes. Genuinely. Not grudgingly. I can’t pave a road, I can’t build and staff a hospital. $200 in my pocket won’t pay for my kid’s daycare but if we all pool our money it might. I really wish someone on the left would be brave enough to be like, “Taxes are good, actually.”
