Hi Bluesky! I’m a 26-year-old Democrat and programmer. I spent over two years at Twitter leaving when Dorsey left.

I’m now focused on getting good people elected down the ballot and building tech for positive change. Excited to be here!

oh so these people do pay attention to who politicians follow on social media, they just don’t care that the vice president follows a bunch of actual neo-nazis
James Talarico, a Texas Democrat running for U.S. Senate who has put his faith at the forefront of his campaign, follows several adult film performers, escorts and OnlyFans models on Instagram, according to an Axios review.
Faith-forward Texas Senate candidate follows porn actors, escorts online
James Talarico has become a sensation in Texas politics by talking about how his Christianity is the basis for his progressive politics.

Republicans thought they had a permanent hold over young men. They didn't.

Spanberger wins men 18-29 by 14%, Sherrill by 10%, and Mamdani by a stunning 40%.

Speaker Mike hasn’t been into work in 3-plus weeks, and hasn’t spent a full week at the office since July.

“Been a little busy” he says, with what? Keeping cucumbers over his eyes so he can pretend not to see anything?

The aging, latent police reporter in me can't help put pause to remark on the unforced error of the SAC in Salt Lake's FBI field office making the unforced error of announcing they have recovered a “footwear impression.” A shout-out to toss or destroy those shoes, ASAP.

That's a detail you keep.

over time I believe this will end up being one of the most unpopular things the administration ever does

a death sentence for many hobbies and all the average consumer sees is that you’re taking away all their bargains

one of the few policies that has a direct negative effect on almost everyone

I'm still surprised there is basically no mainstream reporting on what repealing the de minimis exception is going to do to the US. International shipping will either be cost prohibitive or stopped totally. No more US orders really ruins small businesses in the EU and Asia.
Trump order ends global tariff exemption for low-cost goods
The de minimis exemption had allowed goods valued at $800 or less to enter the US without paying any tariffs.

Federal takeover of DC isn't about crime

Shaking down Harvard isn't about antisemitism

Tariffs aren't about reinvigorating U.S. manufacturing

Sacking the head of BLS isn't about getting the numbers right

DOGE wasn’t about government efficiency

It’s all about gaining and keeping power
“.. DOGE increasingly looks like a giant joke as the initiative winds up saving essentially zero dollars for US taxpayers .”

Can’t have bad monthly job reports if there is no monthly job reports. Can’t have bad economic data if there is no economic data.

Public data is the foundation of economic research & analysis. Transparent revisions are a normal part of that process. Attacking BLS for political reasons like this will have immense costs in terms of public trust even if, as likely, Trump can't get the manipulated data he wants.

Unquestionably the most dangerous and corrupt attack on the independence of US economic data in American history. Trump is firing the head of the BLS, a longtime civil servant confirmed 86-8 by the Senate, simply because the job numbers came in below his expectations today

A weak jobs report. The US economy added only 73,000 jobs in July.
That's way below expectations. May and June revised down by -258,000 (!)

Where Congress is gridlocked, fiscal policy is a circus, and Wall Street is addicted to sugar — Powell at least tries to be the grown-up:

🔹 He’s pragmatic, not dogmatic
🔹 He’s calm in chaos
🔹 He’s not chasing legacy — just trying to hold the institution steady in a dysfunctional political era
goodbye, independent monetary policy

NYT found the “big beautiful bill” would be the largest transfer from the poor to the rich in a single law since at least 1990.

In fact, it would be the largest transfer *ever.*

Reagan’s low-income cuts were MUCH smaller - and his tax cuts were done separately. And before him, nothing comes close.
