Hello new followers 👋 Thanks for following! My account is a mix of my two jobs (trade unions and numismatics research) with a sprinkling of allotments, poetry, and museums… Keep following if you like employment rights, coins, and vegetables! As a reward here’s a picture of a giant cottager’s kale 🌱
I’ve finally got the broad beans in! There are still winter radish and fennel in the middle of the bed so I’ve planted around them - hope it all works… 🌱 #allotment

Recorded two coins this week. 🏺 One is a gold (my first !!) half guinea of George III, bent on opposite sides and directions, probably a love token. The other is a massive silver bank token made when small change was short, also George III. Same bust for both. #FindsFriday

Probably my favourite duck - I love watching them dabble when I can catch a glimpse of them! I was lucky enough to see some Marbled Teal (aka Marbled Duck) in Spain earlier this year too.
Our #AutumnArrivalSpotlight turns to the Teal today, the UK’s smallest dabbling duck. 🦆

With visitors arriving from northern Europe, their vibrant green eye-stripes brighten our lakes and marshes.

Chilly morning at the #allotment! We went mostly to get this area weeded ready to plant over-wintering broad beans but some harvesting too…

Another lovely #IronAge #coin for #FindsFriday - this is a gold stater of the Osismii (western Brittany), with a winged figure beneath the horse holding a torc. Probably early first century BC. Found in the Le Catillon II hoard in #Jersey in 2012 #archaeology #numismatics

Today’s harvest! Last of the pumpkins - first of the leeks… The brassicas are still going strong - they’re getting a bit of flea beetle now but with a decent rinse it’s all still good! 🥬 #allotment

Pot of gold!

Rare Roman gold coin hoard uncovered near Didcot, Oxfordshire, by a metal detectorist in 1995. The pot contained 126 gold aurei, struck between AD 54-160. It would have taken a legionary soldier over ten years to earn this large sum!

Can't let #FindsFriday go past without another fine Iron Age coin. This is a base silver stater attributed (probably wrongly) to the Veneti, in southern Brittany. Diameter 22mm. Note the recumbent figure below the horse - what is he holding? #archaeology #numismatics 🏺
