SAME. I have been doing a reread of the Silmarillion plus dabbling a bit here and there into Unfinished Tales. It just made me appreciate all the things they got right, in spirit if nothing else.

Itโs so silly how most the concepts, character choices, etc that haters strongly disagree with in trop are actually things that take direct inspiration from the books themselves. And for me, the more I go back to the books the more I appreciate the show even more

My request for time off was approved! I'll be taking the kids next month to go see the Lord of the Rings films when they're rereleased for the 25th anniversary! It'll be their first times seeing them in theaters!

I love this take, honestly. I've always hated the argument that Celebrian couldn't possibly be alive yet cause that would make Galadriel a bad mother for even thinking about leaving her. Part of me really hopes maybe she could still be out there, but realistically I know she probably isn't.

Yes! The silmarillion is important to read but I always suggest people read the HoME books too if they can, especially the unfinished tales if they want to understand where the showrunners are getting a lot of their ideas from
We recently got news that S3 of Rings of Power finished filming, so this is your reminder to go read Unfinished Tales before it drops. esp if you had issues with S1+2. Once you read UT you'll see why the showrunners made some of the decisions they did bc the show is like a loveletter to it.

I feel like I may understand the rationalizing for why certain changes were made but it's undeniable changes WERE made. Rings of Power is at least managing to get an awful lot faithful in spirit. Why not extend some grace to them too for the things they get "wrong?"

I wasn't part of the online Tolkien communities back when the movies first came out, but this does not surprise me at all!

If haters wanna complain about RoP because of the three elven rings being made first, why aren't they also complaining about their depiction from the prologue of Fellowship? The rings weren't 'gifted' to the elves they were made BY the elves AFTER all the others were.

For any who might be interested, we had to recently buy a new cabinet to serve as a pantry for our food. #ElrondTheCat has an obsession with bags and managed to bite holes into all of our bags of bread. I believe he was inspecting them, trying to see if any were lembas, and found them to be wanting.

I like to think that in the back of Galadriel's mind, she's thinking to herself "Suck it Fรซanor!" Even the more serene version of her from the PJ films.

Oh totally. It's tragic. He was a great character and I would've loved to have seen so much more about him. But he was never going to be successful in his goals given what we know about future events.

I agree I don't think he's being punished by returning to his former appearance. The outward appearance had very little to do with his actual change of heart. And in fact it matched his self-identity as an uruk. That's why I feel like his coloring/looks had nothing to do with his morals or goodness.
