Pierre Poilievre qualified for a full government pension at the age of 31.. 15 years later he’s yet to deliver a single meaningful piece of progress for this country. Did quite the opposite under Harper. Yet he’s leading in the polls?

When you thought #Bill212 couldn’t get any worse, planning active transportation improvements in #Ontario is about to get a whole lot harder. Here are some insights that go beyond the latest headlines… 🧵

Same goes for federal conservatives. Don’t be fooled into thinking that normalizing right wing extremism south of the border hasn’t affected Canadian political parties. Get informed and vote accordingly.
I still meet and hear about voters in #ontario who are not aware of the conservative’s politics and plans. There are people who have no idea what is happening. If you’re someone who traditionally voted a certain way, research that the party and representatives you’re voting for still represent you!
Finally, and I cannot stress this enough, VOTE! Sure, the election hasn’t been called, but remember ALL of these scandals (Greenbelt, Ontario Place, Science Centre, booze, long term care, privatizing health care) when the time comes. We can’t let a minority of #Ontario give him another majority.

Highway 413 is a waste of taxpayer dollars.

If getting people moving was a priority the Ford government would move trucks on to the 407, not spend billions of dollars paving farmland to build a parallel highway.

Doug Ford wants to put the pedal to the metal to build Ontario’s Highway 413. Here’s why that may not work
Recent provincial legislation includes a streamlined environmental assessment and round-the-clock construction, but it will still take many years before the 413 is drivable.

Here’s the plain truth about the bike-lane crisis that Ontario’s right-wing Premier Doug Ford has created.

He’s pandering to angry suburban votes that will help him win the upcoming election, knowing that he won’t win many urban TO seats anyway.

And he’s counting on vote-splitting to win. Again.
How a handful of rich Toronto businessmen with entirely too much political access and influence, but apparently zero understanding of how urban mobility actually works, appear to be getting their way with Ontario Premier Doug Ford on bike-lanes province-wide.

IMPORTANT: The Dutch invest €595 million annually on urban biking, resulting in €19 BILLION saved in public health care costs alone. That’s how smart govts do the math on investing in better mobility.

Let’s be clear— it wastes public money to NOT do it.

Amen. Mobility shouldn’t be political. We know how to move people efficiently and safely, it’s not rocket science. Let the experts do their jobs and leave politics out of it!
This is what happens when people turn transport into a culture war.

Suburbanites feel that their holy land is being destroyed.

And by holy land I mean street parking.

“The bike-lane that went too far?” Hey @torontostar.bsky.social, this title tells me all I need to know about your article and paper. The bike-lane you’re referring to was evidence-based and strategic. Premier Doug Ford is going too far, endangering lives, weakening the city and fueling congestion.

Couldn’t agree more. The distractions are also fundamentally problematic and WILL undoubtedly lead to the predictable consequences of an increase in road fatalities and serious injuries. Toronto’s Vision Zero task force also needs to put their foot down!

As an RPP, this feels like a fitting first post on #bluesky for me. There have been SO MANY fundamentally corrupt dealings in this province under the Ford government for years, it is refreshing to finally see my peers and the entire professional industry stand up and speak out against this issue. 🧵
BREAKING: The Ontario Professional Planners Institute has submitted an 8-page letter to the Government of Ontario opposing the removal of bike-lanes in Toronto or any other municipal jurisdiction.

They make a very thorough case, connecting the dots with evidence.
