While I think this is often true, it also elides another critical point: professional designers often don't realize how smart and capable people are, espeically people who don't play games. 🧵
It cannot be overstated how much hobby gamers underestimate how unintuitive and difficult hobby games are to non-gamers.
This is perhaps even more true of professional game designers, publishers and reviewers/pundits, broadly speaking.

I took the rules for Paladins of the West Kingdom and put them in my brain. I now know how to play and teach the game.
The clock is ticking. In two weeks, it will be gone, and I’ll have to do it all over again the next time I want to play.

I fully intend to enjoy this. I’m ready for some lighter, more relaxing fare. (I’m assuming it’s a cozy jaunt, judging the book by its cover; if it turns out to be a dense and macabre psychological thriller, I’ll post a review.)
