and per implications: when you slash USAid and the US Institute of Peace first, and MONTHS later ‘invade’ Venezuela, guised as a narcoterrorOp, you lack the two elements you traditionally used for geostrategic thinking.
I couldn’t have said it better.

What has DOGE accomplished over the past year? Very little! They cut down USAID and got rid of the US Institute for Peace, but otherwise it was mostly just political theater. Every line of the federal budget (and every office) is there b/c some powerful legislator or interest group wants it there:

What the hell is the “Board of Peace”? Trump already dismantled the Institute of Peace early in his administration. So dumb and an obvious grift.

As the first year of his second term wraps up, his Republican administration and allies have put his name on the U.S. Institute of Peace, the Kennedy Center performing arts venue and a new class of battleships that's yet to be built.

Executives are mostly cowards. Powell though is a professional who has my respect. The good people at the USIP who were cut down by DOGE as well. I hope that a better more just supreme court can reestablish the indepence of these organizations.

No - we are saying it’s another pillar that will fall due to lack of recognition and planning.

He couldn’t obliterate federal agencies, but did. He couldn’t steal the USIP building but did. He couldn’t take the Kennedy Center and slap his name on it but did. He can’t receive a 400mm jet but did.

Mandated by Congress?! As if that means anything to the Trump administration. Just ask USIP, the Wilson Center, and every other Congressionally mandated and funded institution or program that has been trashed.
📌URGENT: Trump's regime is trying to turn Stars & Stripes into state-run media.
I was the ME of S&S.

It's MANDATED BY CONGRESS to be an editorially independent paper that reports ON the troops FOR the troops.

So I type this with precision: The draft-dodging, America-attacking slob can KISS MY ASS.
Pentagon says it will ‘refocus’ Stars and Stripes content
The Pentagon suggested it would take over editorial decision making for Stars and Stripes, which has long retained independence under a congressional mandate.

Yep. The GOP will exact punishment and by the time a court rules against them (e.g. USIP) it’s done.

The Dems will spend two years gathering information in hearings or at best file an executive order on the last day of a lame duck presidency to be immediately reversed.
that the major corps are clearly vastly more worried about the right than the left in terms of enforcement is a problem we are going to have to rectify

This is not the US decision.

It is the Trump administration decision.

It is hard to know at this point if this decision will be even more damaging and lethal than the USAID Trump/DOGE cuts and USIP destruction. However, we do know that it will be at least as immoral and unAmerican.
UN: “Secretary-General Guterres regrets the announcement regarding the United States' decision to withdraw from a number of UN entities.
The United Nations has a responsibility to deliver for those who depend on us.
We will continue to carry out our mandates with determination.”

It’s worth mentioning that this also comes after a year of the U.S. gutting support for the UN, sanctioning ICC judges, withdrawing from international agreements, collapsing international aid by breaking down USAID, and damaging any work for peace i.e. through USIP.
Colombian president Gustavo Petro has requested urgent meetings in the UN and the Organization of American States (OAS) - only question is to what extent these multilatreal organizations even matter in a world where the US has shown no regard for the rules based international order.

Since Trump won the FIFA peace prize and rebranded “the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace” a month ago, he has:

• continued lethal strikes in the Caribbean
• bombed ISIS targets in Nigeria
• threatened Iran that U.S. is “locked and loaded”
• struck Venezuela and captured its leader
Trump brands himself around peace while threatening war.

The "Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace" and his FIFA peace prize arrived as Trump issues new threats and his "Department of War" touts its lethal strikes.

"Orwellian is about the nicest term I can come up with,” @coons.senate.gov told me.
Trump wants to be known as a peacemaker while frequently threatening war
The president talks frequently of his desire for more peace. He also likes talking like a warmonger.

Umm - feels like renaming the US Institute of Peace was completely unfounded, stupid, AND unconstitutional.

But … details.
U.S. Institute of Peace renamed for Trump after his administration dismantled the agency
The nonpartisan independent agency's mission is to promote peace internationally and resolve violent conflicts globally. Most of its staff were let go in March.

Renaming the Institute of Peace after Trump is absurd. Peace isn’t bombing countries, seizing oil, unleashing ICE raids, or ruling through fear. That’s not leadership, it’s authoritarianism. Dictators rename institutions after themselves. Democracies don’t.
