Deterrence only works on people who have something to lose.

Let's go and dispossess as many people as possible.

This will have no negative consequences.

I never paid close attention to the credits on games. I went to look to see if I could find out what else the writers and directors on a big studio game I liked had worked on and realized that they'd scattered to the winds, and had formed that team from being previously scattered to the winds...

Shown a video by The Algorithm.

Click the link to the channel.

Click "videos"

Click to sort by "oldest"

Does it have videos from prior to ~2022? Are they clearly by the same people?

I know this is a barrier to entry, but sometimes it feels necessary.

Vampires are repelled by garlic because they have a strong sense of smell, not because garlic has any magical properties. Try other strong-smelling substances next time you get a chance.

GTA V is boring.

The last GTA game I enjoyed was Vice City.

I was thinking of teaching an AI-reliant student to use Symbolab, as at least it requites him to understand how to frame the problem. Just noticed they now have an LLM chatbot. It won't attempt to solve a problem from a photo, but it is there.

Symbolab not being LLM based was a selling point.

More glue does not equal more sticky.

There is an optimum amount of glue and it is probably less than you think.

Re: Skilled vs. Unskilled labor

My neighbor was a professional man-with-truck. He had a truck, he put heavy objects on it, he drove the truck, he unloaded the truck. We hired him to move house, but his main thing was cable spools.

I could load things on a truck, I could drive a truck, today...

I've known entirely too many children whose lives fit this song far too closely and whenever I learn about (or witness) their backstories this song plays in my head. None of them should ever hear this song.

Switching from Paint.Net to PSP and the mouse wheel direction for changing brush size is reversed.

Used to not even notice it but I've been pretty much Paint.Net only for the better part of a year.

The libertarian/ancap view that if you don't like what a business does, you should just take your money elsewhere, and that this is the prevailing state of affairs does not square with what businesses are allowed to do. An example:

You choose a bank for its consumer-friendly policies. That bank...

Upon re-watch, THE QUICK AND THE DEAD (1995) is even BETTER a second time around, and I also have to amend my assessment of Sharon Stone's performance. She is fantastic in this, playing a decidedly different kind of Western anti-hero.

The film is much more subversive and deep than I recall.

My unpopular Star Wars/franchise movie take is that there are more good Rocky movies than there are good Star Wars movies.

Scale of generative AI annoyance:
0: AI products in a discussion of the technical aspects of AI (2 Minute Papers etc.)
3: Low-use-value AI products presented as AI
7: Low-use-value AI products with 0 acknowledgement that it is AI
10: AI products signed by the "artist," presented as original work.
